Job Description
This position is responsible for initiating and implementing projects in
support of organizing, bargaining, and public policy/legislative issues
of concern to workers primarily through the analysis of large healthcare
databases in the Research Department’s Health Care Division.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Conduct research on special projects and issues: compiles and analyzes
quantitative and qualitative information on public jurisdictions,
industries, firms, individuals, and issues.
• Maintain and analyze State and Federal Healthcare Data.
• Generate database extracts in a variety of formats including but not
limited to Excel spreadsheets and MS Access databases.
• Develop and implement programming code (using SQL, Excel and other
software) and perform statistical analysis.
• Provide technical assistance to research staff on database functions
and techniques.
• Perform other data-related and non-data-related research duties as
required.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a
degree in statistics, public health, business/finance, a social science
or a related field and a combination of education and experience that
would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Knowledge of unions and their positions on worker issues
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
ability to make formal presentations and write advocacy papers.
• Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Skill in the use of spreadsheets, database management systems,
presentation software and on-line information sources.
• Ability to conduct formal research, analyze data and make sound,
logical conclusions.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and meet established timelines.
• Knowledge of SQL, SAS or any programming language a plus
